DVB Bank corporate lending

AVP, Front Office Technology and Operations, Corporate and Commercial Banking · Frankfurt · 2006 to 2008

Situation

Corporate lending ran on documents and hand-offs, from origination to the legal paperwork, across systems that couldn't share a customer. Credit, CRM and tax-jurisdiction decisions were manual. The bank was also launching a new loan participation business, ITF Suisse, in Zurich, and needed its technology and operations built from a standing start.

What I did

Chief product owner for the corporate and commercial banking products, and the bank's lead agile coach, converting the project process to agile. Digitised credit origination, underwriting, adjudication and legals. Designed the bank's CRM and a tax-jurisdiction scorecard. Designed and delivered the bank's service-oriented architecture, its first real API layer, so the systems could share one view of the customer. With a team of six developers and three analysts, delivered about €1.5M of systems. Partnered with the SVP of loan participation to launch ITF Suisse: the business process design and the change management as well as the systems.

Result

A lending process that ran on data instead of paper, a CRM and an API layer the bank kept building on, and ITF Suisse launched with its technology and operations in place.

What it took

Owning the process, not just the system. A loan product is the workflow the bank runs, and the software has to follow it.
